Can You Change Your Perspective of Your Circumstance?

When I revisit stories of the Bible we have heard since we were kids, I like to try to look at them from a different perspective. I like the fresh feeling this gives as I seek the living nature of scripture. The story I have been looking at recently is when David faces Goliath. I wonder what it would be like if I were one of the Israelite soldiers called up by Saul to face off against our sworn enemy, the Philistines. I have marched off to the battlefield. When we go out for our first day of battle, at the front of the enemy line marches Goliath. This guy is huge! I can imagine how ferocious his voice would sound, as he taunts and shouts obscenities. And then he issues his challenge: “Choose one man to come down here and fight me! If he kills me, then we will be your slaves. But if I kill him, you will be our slaves!” (1 Samuel 17:8-9) No one wants to be the one who risks …

City Station Goes Public

To say that I’m excited about what God has done the last few weeks would be a gross understatement!  Things are moving forward rapidly with the vision that He has given Southern Hills.  I want to take a few minutes just to let you know a few things that are happening in regards to the community center. We don’t have to use the generic term “the community center” anymore.  The facilities at the end of the bypass next to CVS will officially be called (drum roll please)… City Station.  We believe this name communicates to all of Carrollton that this is a place where everyone can come to serve, be served, grow, fellowship, and belong. We have submitted our application packet to the Planning and Zoning Committee.  The application looks great and is extremely thorough thanks to the hard work of Kirby Butler.  She has committed countless hours to heading up this process as she continues to champion this project.  All indications so far are that the packet was well received. As the plans for City Station are now public record, the word …

June Vision Update

Being used by God takes having a little vision on our part. Seeing what God wants us to see, being used how God wants us to be used takes vision. So what’s this vision thing and how does it work?! Jonathan Swift said, “Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.” Yep, I like it! But if you think about it, there was a lot of that going on in 60’s and 70’s, if you know what I mean… How about this one from Helen Keller: “The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight but no vision.”  Well, that one sorta stings don’t it?! But we would agree that it’s true. Proverbs 29:18 tells us “Where there is no vision the people perish.” (KJV) I think its safe to assume we’re not in favor of the perishing part. As leaders and members, we are seeking the vision God has for our church.  And God’s plan is far greater than anything we could have dreamed up!  How exciting to be apart of something that we …
