We use the words “grace” and “mercy” quite a bit. I used to think they were the same thing because they are so often used together. While they are similar, they are very different. They both have huge implications on our physical and spiritual lives.
Grace is getting something wonderful that you never deserved.
Mercy is a pardon from punishment that you did deserve.
We are sinful so we deserve death. We deserve misery. We deserve shame and guilt. We deserve hell. But God gave us a savior in Jesus Christ that we did not deserve. He gave us new life that we never deserved. He gives us blessing after blessing that we do not deserve.
But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. – Ephesians 2:4-6
Wow. God is so rich in grace and mercy.
As you go about your week pray and be thankful for the grace and mercy that God gives us. Use these songs to prepare for our worship time together on Sunday.
