Have you ever found yourself speechless before the throne of God? Has His love ever knocked the wind out of you? Has the weight of His grace brought you to your knees? When was the last time you were filled with wonder at who God is and what He has done for you?
And is there a higher accomplishment for any novel, any poem, than to awaken some reader’s sense of wonder? – Tom Robbins
That’s what praise music does for me; it awakens my wonder for God. In the prose, I am brought before the feet of my Savior and I am moved. I kneel humbly, I raise my hands in adoration, I sing longingly till my throat hurts. The first time I heard the song the band will be introducing this Sunday, I was filled with wonder for my God. “Resurrecting” by Elevation Church is full of beautifully written lyrics.
The fear that held us now gives way
To him who is our peace
His final breath upon the cross
Is now alive in me…The tomb where soldiers watched in vain
Was borrowed for three days
His body there would not remain
Our God has robbed the grave…The resurrected king
Is resurrecting me.
Romans 6:5 says, “For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his” (NIV). As you go about your week, I encourage you to listen to these songs. Allow them to fill you with humility as you contemplate what Christ did on the cross. Allow them to fill you with wonder as you consider this new life we have in Christ.
