Be Strong

Have you ever had one of those “I’m totally overwhelmed and not sure I can do this!” kind of days? Weeks? Maybe even months?!? It’s been one of those seasons for me.

When city council said “yes” to City Station, I pulled myself up by my bootstraps and began to make plans for the future.

Signing contracts. Approving promotional materials. Fundraising in the community. Meeting with staff. Reviewing blue prints. Reviewing altered blue prints. Writing messages. Writing blogs. Meeting with the press.

I felt like I carried the future of City Station and our church family on my back.

I know… you’re shocked that I felt overwhelmed.

Thankfully God is good, He is patient, and His Spirit is persistent. He would not allow me to rest in my stubbornness and He has been faithful to guide me back to His truth. God guided me back to a passage that He first directed me to almost 20 years ago. His Word was true then and it remains tried today.

Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command-be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.Joshua 1:6-9

God reminded me that these stresses, these worries, these momentary struggles… they are not mine to bear.

And this truth is for you, too.  The things that are causing you stress, the worry you are holding on to, the struggles you carry… they are not yours to bear.

Don’t forget your source! Don’t forget your strength!

In the middle of your burdens, whatever they may be, run to the only One who can carry you through. Meditate on His Words. Remember His promises.

Be strong! Be courageous! The Lord, your God, He is with you! You have nothing to fear!

I just read your blog. I must have been having sympathy pains for you when I texted you last night! I still mean it: lean back and enjoy the beautiful scenery of this weekend. Behold the power of the Lord!

Thanks Shannon! I sometimes feel like the guy in the picture, and I honestly don’t know why. Most of the things we worry about are so inconsequential! On Tuesday I tried to bake two cheesecakes. The pans leaked, the house filled with smoke, and my ovens were filled with burned gooey “stuff”. The old me would have cried, or had a temper tantrum.

Instead, with smoke billowing out of both ovens, the new me starting singing “Give Thanks to the Holy one….. over and over! I was grinning and singing and my husband looked at me as if I were losing my mind, but I’m not! I cleaned up the mess, the cheesecakes are ugly but I’m counting on them tasting ok and not “smoky”. Either way, it honestly doesn’t matter!

As long as we follow God’s path laid out before us, looking neither to the right nor to the left, we will be exactly where we need to be!
