To say that I’m excited about what God has done the last few weeks would be a gross understatement! Things are moving forward rapidly with the vision that He has given Southern Hills. I want to take a few minutes just to let you know a few things that are happening in regards to the community center.
We don’t have to use the generic term “the community center” anymore. The facilities at the end of the bypass next to CVS will officially be called (drum roll please)… City Station. We believe this name communicates to all of Carrollton that this is a place where everyone can come to serve, be served, grow, fellowship, and belong.
We have submitted our application packet to the Planning and Zoning Committee. The application looks great and is extremely thorough thanks to the hard work of Kirby Butler. She has committed countless hours to heading up this process as she continues to champion this project. All indications so far are that the packet was well received.
As the plans for City Station are now public record, the word is out and circulating fast! The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive. Glory to God!
We are now waiting until August 11 for the Planning and Zoning Committee hearing. Please keep this day in your prayers, as this committee will either deny our requests or pass them along for final approval to the City Council on September 7.
As we wait and trust, we are putting together materials and plans for fundraising. I believe with all of my heart that there are people, both locally and nationally, that God has called to be a part of this vision and that He will make it crystal clear to them and to us when the time comes.
So what can you do? PRAY! Pray disciplined prayers. Pray that God will continue to light the next steps of this journey that we are on together. Pray that God will continue to impress upon the decision makers of our wonderful community the necessity of a vision like this. Pray that God sends us the people that He desires to be a part of this vision He has given us. Pray that God will continue to provide the resources needed at the time it is needed. Finally, pray that we as His church continue to be obedient to what He has called us to today… being disciples who make disciples.
