What a fun and busy summer it has been for the littlest members of our church! Unless you have a preschooler in your family, you may be unaware of all the exciting things happening within our ministry. I’d like to share with you about our summer projects as well as fill you in on our upcoming plans for the fall.
We kicked off summer fun during the month of May by holding our very first Preschool Playdate Service Project. Six families met at The Stewart House Assisted Living Home to plant flowers for the 40 residents currently living there. The children had so much fun choosing beautiful pots, scooping handfuls of dirt, and planting flowers. They then loaded all the plants into a red wagon and walked up and down the hallways, leaving a flower in each room to brighten the day of “the Grandmas and Grandpas,” as we called them.
The children also had the opportunity to sing a song to the residents and teach them the Bible verse they memorized for the month of May… “Be kind and loving to each other.” Ephesians 4:32
The preschoolers held a Food Drive throughout the month to benefit the Carroll County Women’s Shelter. They really enjoyed sorting and packing all of the items. It was so neat to see their excitement when we explained that all the food they collected would be given to boys and girls just like them in our community. What a great way to live out the mission of our church!
Our June playdate celebrated our summer series, “Camp Splish Splash.” It was a fun morning of swimming and t-shirt tie-dying. We also enjoyed a yummy lunch of grilled hotdogs and popsicles… every kid’s perfect meal! Ask any of our preschoolers, “Whose way is perfect?” And they can tell you, “God’s way is perfect!”
Later on this month, we will be helping to sort and count all of the school supplies that are donated during our annual School Supply Collection that benefits Sharp Creek Elementary School.
As we anticipate the fall, I am so excited to see what God has in store for our ministry. We will be reviewing the three basic truths that we strive to instill in the hearts of our preschoolers… God made me. God loves me. Jesus wants to be my friend forever. These are the building blocks of faith that will help every preschooler learn that he is special because God made him. He is loved with a never-ending love, and because of that love, God sent Jesus to be his friend forever.
If you’ve ever considered working with preschoolers, now is the perfect time to get plugged in! We need volunteers to help in a variety of ways and would LOVE to have you join our team. There’s nothing sweeter than a smile and a hug from a three-year-old. Plus, we provide all-you-can-eat goldfish and animal crackers. So, it’s a pretty awesome deal.
