This morning I read James 4:14, “How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.” (NLT) I only have a short amount of time on this earth to be who my Father has called me to be. Oh how I don’t want to waste this gift I’ve been given!
Abraham Kuyper once said, “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is sovereign over all, does not cry MINE.”
Why do we have such a hard time coming to grips with the reality that our lives are not our own? It has been bought with a price by Almighty God Himself in the person of Jesus Christ!
Are you striving to place His desires and His will above all else? Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (NLT) Have you truly grasped that your life has been bought? Your spouse, your kids, your career… all of it… is His! He wants to be on the throne of your finances, your friendships, and ultimately your will.
Are you allowing Him to change you? Galatians 2:20 says, “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” I don’t have to operate under my own strength and understanding anymore. Are you allowing His Spirit that resides in you to make you new? Are you in His Word? Are you falling on your knees and seeking His will, His heart, and His plans? Are you learning to hear His voice above the noise of this world?
Get moving! I know that it can be terrifying not knowing the future, but don’t let that stop you from stepping out! Psalm 119:105 tells us, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” We might not see the end results, but He will guide our next step. If you’re in His Word and in tune with His Spirit, get to stepping! Look for opportunities today to live out this “new life” you’ve been given.
Don’t quit! You will get tired. You will get discouraged. You will get attacked. But don’t quit! As Paul said in Philippians 3:14, “I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” (NLT) A lot of people start a race strong, but few are able to finish the same way. Finish strong! Find people that are willing to run the race with you. Keep your eyes on people who are running well and follow them, celebrating victories together.
Jesus said it best in Matthew 16:25, “If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.” (NLT) I pray we will willingly give up that which was never ours in the first place!
