Seeking Heaven Daily

Every day is filled with things to do: jobs, projects, parenting, school, chores, etc.  My life is not the same as yours and yours is not like the person beside you.  We all have different agendas, thoughts, and desires for our lives.  We each have different goals we hope to accomplish on a daily basis.

This past Sunday Keith talked about what Heaven will look like.  As Christ-followers, we look forward to Heaven someday, but have you ever considered Heaven as a daily goal?

No matter what our individual daily routines look like, our true ultimate goal needs to be Heaven.  If Heaven is our goal we should:

  • Sacrificially give  to others our love, time, money, possessions, etc.  (Hebrews 13:16)
  • Love others like Christ loves the Church. (John 15:12)
  • Submit fully to Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit (Proverbs 3:6)

I am sure you have heard the phrase, “No pain, no gain” and “Nothing worth having comes easy.”

Heaven is going to be the most glorious place, beyond our imaginations!  Certainly a place like this would not have easy access.  Jesus said, “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way.  But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14, NLT)

Early in my marriage I wanted the easy way out, but the words of the Lord told me to be strong and endure!  Paul says in Philippians 3:14 “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Then in verse 20 he says, “Our citizenship is in heaven.” (NLT)

THAT is what I want! Citizenship in Heaven.

If Heaven is our goal, then:

  • Train yourself to think, “I do not belong here.  Heaven in my home.” (Hebrews 13:14
  • Train yourself to ask “Is this worthy of Heaven?” (Matthew 6:19-21)

Keith said it Sunday, “God is grooming you right now to lead in the New Earth.”  Every day matters for eternity.

My prayer to you is the same as Jesus when he prayed for his disciples in John 17:16-17, “They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.  Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” (NLT)

Be sanctified by God’s word, and know that you are not of this world.

You belong in Heaven.

Make Heaven your goal, every, single, day.
